Overby Family Reunion

Location: Historic Blandford
Church, 111 Rochelle Lane, Petersburg, VA 23805 (This is just off Crater Road)
We will plan to
have a lunch around 1 pm and a Headstone Dedication Service on the North side
of Columbia Ave between Lee and Jackson Ave at about 2:30 PM.
This service
will be at the grave of William Epps Overby,
Confederate Veteran Company D of the 13th VA Calvary, reorganized later as the
13th regiment of the 5th VA Calvary.
William Epps Overby is the father of David Overby.
We have
recently had a headstone placed at his grave. This stone was provided by the US
Veterans Administration. They provide headstones to any American Veteran with
known burial site but no headstone.
We have requested
that the Sons of Confederate Veterans, Chester Station Camp, (re-enactors)
provide a Color Guard Troop for the Ceremony. This is not yet confirmed.
Lunch will be
at an outdoor pick-nick area adjacent to the Visitor Center, with use of the
Center’s restrooms. Everyone should bring a dish to share as usual, ice,
plates, utensils, etc. will be provided by the Reunion Treasury. Everyone
should also bring a lawn chair if possible. The grave site is a short walk from
the Visitor Center.
Tours of
Historic Blandford Church will be available for $5,
Seniors $4 The Church has magnificent Stained Glass Windows by Louis Comfort
Tiffany, and the tour guide provides a history of the building, which is the
oldest structure in Petersburg.
Please discuss
this with your family members, letting as many as you can, know about this
special reunion in advance. Announcements will be sent to all on our mailing
list in June.
We are
requesting that each family group provide information on who will be attending.
As you read

sibling’s children, grandchildren, etc. are not receiving this advance notice.
